About the author:
Dan Brown is a best-selling American author renowned for his gripping thrillers that blend history, art, religion, and cryptography. He was born on June 22, 1964, in Exeter, New Hampshire, into an academically inclined family—his father was a math teacher and his mother a church organist. This unique upbringing, combining science and religion, heavily influenced his writing.
Brown attended Phillips Exeter Academy, where he later returned as an English teacher. He graduated from Amherst College in 1986 and briefly pursued a career as a musician before shifting his focus to writing.
He gained worldwide fame with his 2003 novel, "The Da Vinci Code," which became a global phenomenon, selling millions of copies and sparking widespread debate for its controversial take on religious history. The book, along with its predecessor "Angels & Demons" (2000), introduced readers to Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, who would go on to star in other popular novels like "The Lost Symbol" (2009), "Inferno" (2013), and "Origin" (2017). Several of these books were adapted into successful films starring Tom Hanks.
Brown's works are known for their fast-paced narratives, intricate puzzles, and deep dives into historical and cultural topics. Despite some criticism for his writing style and historical accuracy, his ability to captivate readers has cemented his place as one of the most successful authors of his time.
Outside of writing, Brown is also passionate about music and philanthropy. He and his wife, Blythe Brown, have donated to various causes, including arts and educational institutions. Brown continues to write and inspire audiences worldwide with his thought-provoking storytelling.
Personally, despite hearing lots of criticism of his work just after fame hit when "The Da Vinci Code" was at its most popular, I put it down to envy as his books are fantastic.
