The son of legendary writer Stephen King and novelist Tabitha King, Hill chose to write under a pen name to establish his own literary identity.

Hill first gained prominence with his short story collection, 20th Century Ghosts (2005), which won several awards, including the Bram Stoker Award and the British Fantasy Award. His debut novel, Heart-Shaped Box (2007), further solidified his reputation, blending psychological horror with supernatural elements.
